At the Russian Art Gallery there is an exhibition dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the return of Crimea and Sevastopol to Russia

CrimeaPRESS reports:

The Russian Art Gallery, together with the Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after V.I. Surikov at the Russian Academy of Arts, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, presented the project “Ten”, dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the historical event — the reunification of Sevastopol and Crimea with Russia. The project involves a thematic exhibition, which runs until April 21 in Sevastopol, in the exhibition hall of the Russian Art Gallery.

The exhibition is based on ten canvases painted by leading teachers and professors of the Surikov Institute, commissioned by the gallery. “Ten” is an exhibition-research, an exhibition-reflection on the role of Crimea in everyone’s life. The authors of the ten works presented in the exhibition tried to find Crimea in their hearts, to find it in the world around them.

We set out to connect 10 Moscow motifs associated with Crimea, ten canvases — ten years. For me, this is an exhibition about integrity, about a single family, about a single space in which we live. Moscow, Sevastopol, Crimea as a single whole, as one big family. Every artist looked for Crimea within himself, in his heart and around him — in Moscow— the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes the rector of the Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after V. I. Surikov at the Russian Academy of Arts Anatoly Lyubavin.

All ten paintings taking part in the exhibition will be donated to Sevastopol and Sevastopol residents and will replenish the stock collection of the Russian Art Gallery.

The exhibition project “Ten” is an interesting statement of contemporary art, taking into account the traditions of the academic school of Russian painting. This is not a banal view and interpretation of the significance of historical events ten years ago, which shocked the world and reminded us all of the greatness of our people and Russian civilization,” emphasizes Vitaly Zotov, director of the museum and exhibition center of the Russian Gallery of Art.

The partners in the implementation of the project were the Sevastopol Central Library named after. L.N. Tolstoy, who provided books from her collection for the exhibition, the theater named after. A.V. Lunacharsky, who recorded a special soundtrack for the exhibition, and the NTS television company, which provided a historical chronicle of transformations on the peninsula over 10 years. All this made it possible to create a unique atmosphere of the exhibition.

The “Ten” exhibition is a prelude to a large-scale exhibition project being prepared by the Russian Art Gallery. Within its framework, it is planned to show Crimea as a cultural phenomenon that firmly entered the Russian mentality two and a half centuries ago. The exhibition, which will feature more than 400 works from 65 Russian museums, archives, and libraries, will be presented this year in Moscow.

The exhibition “Ten” will be held in the temporary exhibition hall of the Russian State Art Gallery at st. Portovaya, 17 from March 15 to April 21, 2024.
