Attackers on the Internet steal data on behalf of marketplaces
Krympress reports:
Fraudsters steal user information through phishing letters with advertising from marketplaces, TASS reported in the Office for the Organization of the Breased with the Unlawful use of the Russian Information Technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. About how to protect your data and not become a victim of attackers, reminded in the State Duma.
Fraudsters, under the guise of popular marketplaces, send letters with links to supposedly promotions, discounts, sales and draws. When crossing these links, the user falls on the malicious Internet resource, as a result of which he transfers his data to the attackers, including bank details.
Network scammers, as a rule, use well -known brands in order to mislead the user, notes the State Duma deputy, a member of the Inform Policy Committee, the federal coordinator of the Digital Russia party project Anton Nemkin. “This is a fairly common tactics of phishing attacks. Attackers can act on behalf of marketplaces, online stores, banks, lottery operators and even employers. Such letters are issued in the corporate style of brands and contain tempting sentences — for example, reports of major discounts, exclusive promotions, values of valuable prizes or the need to confirm the order. The purpose of the attackers is to force the user to cross the attached link, which leads to a malicious site, outwardly almost indistinguishable from the present— said the deputy.
After the transition, the victim gets to the page where she is asked to log in, Nemkin explained. “For example, scammers may ask you to enter a bank card, indicate a phone number or download the application. As a result, the user runs the risk of transferring access to his accounts to scammers, in some cases to online banking. Sometimes phishing links lead to the site with a malicious script that automatically infects the device malicious software, ”the parliamentarian warned.
According to the results of 2024, the number of phishing pages in RuNet has seriously increased.
According to Bi.zone, in 2024 more than 350 thousand malicious pages were discovered, in 2023 the value did not exceed 210 thousand. Such an increase was explained by the automation of the creation of phishing mailings and a decrease in the entrance threshold for illegal activities on the Internet. In 2025, the trend for the growth of phishing will only remain, so caution on the network is one of the bails of maintaining the safety of its data— Nemkin emphasized.
In order not to become a victim of such schemes, Nemkin advises always to check the sender of the letter — official companies send messages only from corporate domains. Also, do not follow the links from suspicious letters, even if they look believable. The best strategy is to manually enter the address of the marketplace or other company in the browser or go through the official application. Before entering personal data on any site, you need to carefully check the address line — scammers often use domains with typos or additional symbols.
