They watched how the bees gradually filled the honeycombs with honey. By the way, according to signs, it is supposed to be eaten starting from today. They said: «On Honey Savior, even a beggar tastes honey.»
And on August 14, there was a widespread tradition of blessing wells. Peasants collected poppy. By the way, it is known that wild poppy was previously used as protection against witches who could destroy livestock.
And! On this day, the two-week Dormition Fast begins. It is not particularly strict, as it coincides with the harvest. The main prohibitions are imposed on entertainment. Those fasting should not indulge in fun, idle talk, or idle pastime. It is allowed to pray, give alms and do good deeds, read spiritual literature, work hard, and in their free time — reflect on God, their own actions, and repent of past sins.
It is believed that after the Honey Savior the water becomes cold, unsuitable for swimming. Therefore, everyone who was not lazy went to the river to swim for the last time this year. The morning dews also become colder, and they already smell of autumn. Some birds gather in flocks and fly away to warmer regions.
And about 200-300 years ago in Rus’ on this day midwives were honored. It was believed that on the First Savior Solomonida-grandmother was born, who, according to an ancient legend, received the Infant Christ.

- There are many large raspberries in the forest — a favorable time for sowing winter crops.

- It is believed that night thunder strikes all evil spirits walking the earth.
- To prevent unclean spirits, who did not disappear into the underworld after Ivan Kupala, from entering the house that night, an axe should be placed on the threshold, and the corners should be fumigated with the smoke of nettles or thistles.
- The roses have faded — there will be cold dew.
- If it is a rainy day, you cannot work in the field.
