Krympress reports:

On August 8, they noted among the people, the weather was always good. The day was given out warm, dry and sunny, so they worked in the field, in the garden and in the garden. But women were not allowed to go to the Ermolai field — this is a masculine day. Needlework for young ladies was also banned, especially sewing. It was believed that the one who takes the needle will be unhappy in marriage.

These days were indicated by another unspoken ban: it was not allowed to eat apples (before the apple saving) although they had already ripened. But on this day, the housewives made blanks from apples for the winter — they cooked jam, wet in barrels. Overpone fruits were used for the manufacture of homemade wine (cider), nasal and tinctures.

And even on August 8, the healers went to collect healing herbs, because, in accordance with the signs, it is believed that right now, after the morning dew, they will have useful properties.

AND! A good sign was considered on this day a cat’s attention to the owners. If they rub at the master’s legs, they give themselves to stroke — this is to wealth and prosperity for the whole year.

The Church now reveres the memory of St. Yermolai — one of the martyrs along with Ermocrat and Ermipp. As the Holy Scripture says, in the 4th century, as a result of persecutions organized against Christians by Emperor Maximilian, 20 thousand believers died in the Nicomedian church during arson, but it was the three of the above people who were able to escape. After that, they hid for a long time on the territory of the empire, continuing to teach faith in Christ everyone. As the legend says, one day a young man, who was a pagan, passed by the house in which Yermolai lived. Yermolai above him and began to explain to him the falsity of pagan beliefs. After that, the young man repented and began to visit Yermolai daily. It is interesting that later it was he who became known as the martyr Panteleimon. In the end, Yermolai, as well as his students, Ermocrat and Ermipp, were exposed and arrested. They were offered to renounce faith in Christ, but they refused to do it. Then they began to threaten them with torment, but at the same moment a strong earthquake occurred, as a result of which the idols fell from the permits and crashed. Emperor Maximilian, learning about this, sentenced the Martyr’s death sentence.
