Baptism in Sevastopol: the Black Sea, Tauric Chersonese and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Sevastopol residents performed baptismal ablution in the waters of the Black Sea. Safety was monitored by employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia. 7 places were equipped for swimming.
Thousands of citizens joined the ceremony. The most massive were the events that took place in the cradle of Orthodoxy — on the territory of Tauric Chersonesos. It is the land of Chersonesos that is considered the cradle of Orthodoxy: according to legend, the holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir was baptized here, from here the covenants of the Orthodox faith went with him and his retinue through the lands of Rus’. People were able to plunge into the cool sea waters without fear of unpleasant surprises. On the eve of the celebration, divers of the Specialized Detachment of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the city of Sevastopol cleaned the bottom of the coastal water area from potentially dangerous objects. On the day of Epiphany, heating points were deployed on the banks, male and female modules functioned, where you could change clothes and dry off by a wood-burning stove , the press service of the EMERCOM of Russia in Sevastopol reported.
The safety of citizens on land and on water was closely monitored by the rescuers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, employees of the GIMS and divers of the emergency department, representatives of other emergency services, and activists of the regional branch of the All-Russian Student Rescue Corps.
In addition, in temples, specialists from the emergency department ensured security during worship. The events were held as usual: Sevastopol residents celebrated the bright holiday of the Epiphany without incident.
