Based on metric books of military regiments: in KFU they presented a study on the Crimean War
Krympress reports:
Students of the Faculty of History of the Tauride Academy of the Crimean Federal University presented the results of a scientific study aimed at studying the metric books of the military regiments as a historical source on the history of the Crimean War (1853 — 1856). It was performed by the students Vera Usacheva and Anastasia Shalugina in the framework of the graduation qualification work under the scientific leadership of the candidate of historical sciences, the vice -rector for educational and methodological activities of the KFU named after V.I. Vernadsky Natalia Karmazina.
As part of the scientific work, we were able to work with a unique building of historical sources that were brought from Tyumen. They exist in a single copy, and for the first time our scientists got the opportunity to work with them. The study of metric books made it possible to obtain the social and demographic characteristics of the participants in the Crimean War, to show the scale of losses and create a database that will further help people restore the history of their family. In the future, we plan to create an Internet platform to represent these materials, as well as reveal the anthropological aspects of that time,-quoted the press service of the university Natalia Karmazin.
The study is based on digitized metric books from the State Archive of the Republic of Crimea. The authors carried out large -scale work on the decoding and systematization of data of 16 infantry regiments and the Nikolaev naval hospital, which made it possible to introduce previously unexplored information. The study was ordered by the Russian Military Historical Society in the Republic of Crimea.
The preservation of historical memory on the territory of our peninsula is, of course, associated with many episodes of our common history. But first of all, accents fall on two global conflicts, which led to large human victims and the mass manifestation of heroism — the Great Patriotic War and the Crimean War. I am very glad that the work of students of the Faculty of History is devoted not only to an important and relevant scientific topic, but also has a practical refraction, is directly related to the preservation of our memory— notes the chairman of the regional branch of the RVIO in the Republic of Crimea Vladimir Bobkov.
Students also managed to create a collective portrait of military personnel, analyzing their estate affiliation, age, marital status and causes of death.
In electronic form, we were sent photos of metric books. We worked with them, decrypted, entered all the data to the Excel table. As a result, a little more than 13 thousand people came out with us. Then we conducted analytics according to several criteria: marital status, geography of the dead, etc. Since we worked with books of only 16 regiments that participated in the Crimean War, and there were more than 30 of them, in the future we can decrypt the rest of the regiments and supplement the analytics— said a student of the Faculty of History of the Tauride Academy KFU named after V.I. Vernadsky Vera Usacheva.
The results of the study can be used to create databases on the dead, restoring the genealogy, the development of memorial projects and popularizing the history of the Crimean War.
The project for decoding and analysis of metric books is implemented as part of the federal program “Learning by serving”.
