This morning nothing foreshadowed the tragedy in the Taigan lion park. Leokadia Perevalova, a professional, “lion mother”, a person who has worked her way up from a caretaker to a safari park manager, went (as usual) to the predators’ enclosures for an inspection… What happened next? «Professional effect»? Accidental oversight? Leokadia Vladimirovna (for some reason) did not close the bolt of the door between the two rooms of the cage, as a result of which the lions attacked her. It was not possible to save the woman. «Taigan» is mourning.
The Safari Park is temporarily closed to visitors. Investigators and experts are working. A criminal case has been opened.
The Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol opened a criminal case on the fact of violations of labor protection requirements that resulted in the death of a person through negligence (Part 2 of Article 143 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). It was established that this afternoon an employee of the Taigan lion park, who had worked on the territory for almost 17 years, went into a cage with three lions to clean, did not close the door bolt between the two rooms of the cage, as a result of which the predators attacked the woman, causing her fatal injuries .
Employees of the Belogorsk Interdistrict Investigation Department immediately went to the scene of the incident. An inspection of the scene of the incident was carried out, documentation on compliance with safety standards and regulations, labor legislation was seized and studied, the circle of persons responsible for these areas was established, and during the investigation they will be given an appropriate assessment. The progress of the criminal investigation was taken under control by the leadership of the Main Investigation Department— reported the Investigative Committee.
