Black digger was fined in Sevastopol — he was looking for artifacts in the Yukharina Balka area

Agreeing with the position of the state prosecutor of the prosecutor’s office of the Gagarinsky district of Sevastopol, the court issued a conviction in a criminal case against a 37-year-old local resident.
The man is found guilty of paragraph «a» part 3 of Art. 43 It was established that the convict, being a collector of archaeological objects, in August and October 2023 illegally led excavations in order to search for archaeological artifacts in the area of the Yukharina Balka. This territory is located within the boundaries of the cultural heritage object of federal significance — the landmark place «The ancient city of Chersonesos Tauride and the fortress of Chestbalo and Calamite.» The man carried out the search using a shovel and metal detector, and planned to sell or exchange the alleged finds in the spontaneous market-said in the press service of the prosecutor’s office of Sevastopol.
With his actions, he damaged the cultural layer, causing the object of cultural heritage material damage for a total of over 380 thousand rubles.
The criminal activity was suppressed by employees of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.
The Gagarinsky District Court of Sevastopol, taking into account the personality of the perpetrator, his repentance, voluntary partial compensation for damage and state of health, sentenced the guilty punishment in the form of a fine of 70 thousand rubles with an installment plan.
Also, the court was satisfied with the civil lawsuit, supported by the civil lawsuit of the northwear on the recovery of the remaining part of the damage in the amount of over 340 thousand rubles.
The sentence did not enter into legal force.
