From now on, prima ballerina, People’s Artist of Russia Maria Aleksandrovna Aleksandrova will become the acting rector of the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education «Sevastopol Academy of Choreography». Sergei Vladimirovich Polunin becomes an adviser— the message says.
Polunin was appointed acting rector in August 2019, as the Russian Ministry of Culture reported at the time, “until the rector elections.” He remained in this position for all five years.
On website The Bolshoi Theater reports that Aleksandrova graduated from the Moscow Choreographic School in 1997 (class of Sofia Golovkina). From 1997 to 2017, she was an artist of the Bolshoi Theater ballet troupe, and since 2017, she has been a guest ballerina. She has been awarded Russian federal and international prizes.
She performed in performances of other theaters, including the Paris National Opera, the Mariinsky Theater, the Tbilisi Paliashvili Opera and Ballet Theater. She performed in performances of the Russian Chamber Ballet «Moscow», took part in a number of large gala concerts, including the gala concert that accompanied the opening ceremony of the new theater in the city of Apollo (USA), in a gala concert in Athens, in a gala concert of ballet stars in Madrid and others. She took part in a number of large festivals, including the International Ballet Festival «Mariinsky», the festival in honor of Maya Plisetskaya on the stage of the Royal Theater/Teatro Real in Madrid, and became a permanent participant in the project «Russian Seasons XXI century».
The Academy of Choreography is part of a cultural complex being built in Sevastopol on Cape Khrustalny on the orders of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The building is scheduled to be commissioned in the fall of 2024, but the institution has been operating in rented premises for several years now.
