Both on weekdays and on holidays… online scammers will continue to deceive Crimeans

CrimeaPRESS reports:

From March 11 to March 17, 83 Crimeans became victims of remote scammers. As reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea, online scammers manipulate “proven schemes” — through calls, the Internet, installing malicious applications and clicking on links.

CALLS.

36 citizens who suffered from the actions of fraudsters using this scheme contacted the police.

A local resident contacted the Simferopol police after becoming a victim of a scammer. An unknown person called the woman and introduced himself as the buyer of the plot, an advertisement about which had previously been posted on one of the websites. Under the pretext of making an advance payment, an unknown person fraudulently took possession of the woman’s money.

A resident of Yevpatoria told police that an unknown person called her and introduced himself as a law enforcement officer. Under the pretext of repaying a loan allegedly taken out in the name of the applicant, the caller took possession of the woman’s funds.

Residents of Simferopol and Kirov districts and Armyansk believed in the “Your relative got into an accident” scheme. An unknown person called them and said that a relative had been in an accident and urgently needed money. Citizens handed over the required amount of money to the couriers who came to them.

20 of the specified number of CALLS were made through instant messengers, including using the logo of one of the leading banks in Crimea.

Fraudsters are increasingly using instant messengers in their deception schemes. They pose as employees of banks and law enforcement agencies and provide false information. Before acting on the instructions of the attackers, call the bank and make sure the information provided is true.noted the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea.

A resident of the Saki district received a call from an unknown person in the Telegram messenger and introduced himself as a bank employee. Under the pretext of safety of funds, he took possession of the woman’s savings.

A resident of Feodosia filed a complaint with the police and reported that she received a call via WhatsApp messenger. The unknown person introduced himself as an employee of a cellular company. Under the pretext of extending the term of use of the SIM card, the attacker took possession of the applicant’s funds.

Did you hear these words on the phone?
– “someone is applying for a loan for you right now”;
– “you need to get ahead of the scammers and hide your funds in a safe account”;
– “an investigator/interrogator/bailiff/FSB operative is calling you”;
— “a criminal case has been opened against you…”.
Hang up!

INTERNET SITES, SOCIAL NETWORKS, MESSENGERS.

33 citizens fell for the tricks of scammers who use social networks, instant messengers and Internet sites.

A resident of the Sovetsky district told police that a friend wrote to her on a social network and said that the applicant allegedly won a cash prize in a drawing from the bank. To receive your winnings, you must provide your bank card details. The woman sent her details, and then the money was debited from her account. Her friend’s account was hacked by unknown people, and the applicant fell for the scammer’s trick.

A resident of Feodosia reported fraud to the police. The woman said that in the Telegram messenger she wanted to purchase consultations and techniques for losing weight from one of the bloggers. I transferred funds, but never received services.

A resident of Simferopol told the police that an unknown person, fraudulently using the gaming platform, under the pretext of checking the account for the theft of cosmetic items for the characters in the game, took possession of the applicant’s funds.

INSTALLING THIRD-PARTY APPLICATIONS AND FOLLOWING LINKS.

14 citizens fell for the tricks of scammers — they followed links from an unknown source and installed malicious applications.

A resident of the Krasnogvardeisky district contacted the police, saying that he had posted a publication on the advertisement website about the sale of a boat engine. Then he was contacted by an unknown person who informed him of his intentions to purchase this product. To do this, the applicant was asked to follow a link and enter bank card details so that the “buyer” could send money for the goods. After entering the data, funds were debited from the applicant’s account.

A resident of Simferopol told police that an unknown person called her in the Telegram messenger and introduced himself as a bank security officer. Under the pretext of unauthorized debiting of funds from the applicant’s bank account by third parties, an unknown person convinced her to install a malicious application, after which funds were debited from the woman’s bank account.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea once again reminds:

Don’t rush into decisions regarding your savings. Remember, the security of your financial assets depends only on you. If you have become a victim of scammers, immediately report it to the police by calling 102 or submit a written statement to any nearest police station.

Both on weekdays and on holidays... online scammers will continue to deceive Crimeans
