Breast Cancer Week is underway in Russia
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Breast cancer (BC) is one of the most common cancer diseases in Russia and the world. It is important to remember that men, although extremely rarely, are also susceptible to this type of cancer — approximately 1% of all identified cases of breast cancer occur in the male sex.
The risk group includes women who have never given birth, who have been taking the hormone estrogen for a long time, and women who began menstruation early or experienced menopause late. Risk factors also include excess weight, bad habits, gynecological diseases, bruises and injuries to the mammary glands. Breast cancer is one of the few cancers where self-diagnosis is extremely effective. A woman can independently detect signs of breast cancer. Self-examination should be performed every month after the end of menstruation.
You should be alert to: changes in the color and shape of the skin of the mammary gland, retraction or local deepening of the skin, “lemon peel”, retraction or peeling of the nipple, discharge from the nipple, the presence of a lump in the mammary gland itself or in the axillary area.
Mammography is the “gold standard” of diagnosis, the only method for identifying all known variants of breast cancer, including non-palpable breast cancer. Mammography is included in the screening program in Russia; every woman over 40 years of age is recommended to undergo mammography every two years until age 75.
