Breast Health Month and Open Day were held at the Sevastopol Oncology Center
CrimeaPRESS reports:
October 15 was World Breast Cancer Day. One of the main methods of this fight is early diagnosis. However, the hidden course and absence of complaints at the onset of the disease are the reasons for late consultation with a doctor. The probability of curing breast cancer at an early stage is 90%, at the second stage – 80%, at the third stage – 50%. In order to detect the disease at an early stage as often as possible, the Sevastopol Oncology Center held Breast Health Month and an Open Day.
We hold such events on an ongoing basis. Their main task is early diagnosis of tumors. Patients should understand that the effectiveness of treatment of the disease is extremely important at the very beginning. Cancer detected at an early stage can be cured, so the primary goal of the campaign is prevention. In addition to the fact that we provide consultations and examinations, we tell people what symptoms they should pay attention to and consult a doctor immediately— the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes the chief physician of the Sevastopol Oncology Center Vasily Oshchepkov.
The oncology clinic is equipped with the latest equipment that can accurately determine abnormalities in the functioning of the mammary glands. During the “Breast Health Month” campaign, 204 people underwent mammography, 29 were sent for further examination. Almost 300 women were registered for mammography at their place of residence as part of the campaign.
On the Open Day, patients underwent ultrasound examinations and mammograms immediately after being examined by an oncologist, without an appointment. About 100 people received consultations, 25 underwent ultrasound, 34 had mammography. If the diagnosis is confirmed, patients will soon begin immediate treatment.
The events took place within the framework of the regional project “Fighting Cancer” of the national project “Healthcare”. The main goal of the regional project is to reduce mortality from malignant neoplasms. It is aimed at improving the prevention and early detection of oncology, as well as providing specialized care to patients and introducing new treatment methods.
