Roskomnadzor announced a partial blocking of calls to Telegram and WhatsApp* (belongs to META, prohibited in Russia as extremist in Russia)measures are taken to counteract criminals. The corresponding message was published by the press service of the department.
We inform that in order to counteract criminals in accordance with the materials of law enforcement agencies, measures are taken to partially limit calls in these foreign messengers. No other restrictions on their functionality are introduced— the message says.
According to law enforcement agencies and numerous appeals of citizens received by the RKN, foreign messengers Telegram and WhatsApp* became the main voice services used to deceive and extort money, involve Russians in sabotage and terrorist activities. Repeated requirements for the adoption of measures to counteract the owners of messengers are ignored, emphasized in the supervisory department.
In Roskomnadzor, it was reminded that since 2024 the Antifrod system has been operating, which ensures the blocking of calls with the substitution of the number in the traditional telephone networks of Russian communications operators. As a result, such calls almost everyone moved to foreign messengers who refuse to ensure the safety of Russian users and society.
