Car thieves in Crimea switched to two-wheeled transport: a motorcycle was stolen in Yalta, a moped was stolen in Saki

A local resident contacted the Yalta police to report the theft of a vehicle. The man said that an unknown person stole his motorcycle, which was left near the garage. The stolen vehicle did not have anti-theft protection, however, according to the victim, the vehicle was not unattended for long. The amount of damage caused amounted to 40 thousand rubles.
As a result of operational search activities, criminal investigation officers identified the attacker and detained him. The suspect turned out to be a 19-year-old local resident. The young man explained that he noticed someone else’s motorcycle left unattended while walking, making sure that no one was watching his actions, he rolled the vehicle away, intending to dispose of the stolen property at his own discretion. Police officers searched the detainee’s place of residence and seized a motorcycle belonging to the applicant. The suspect confessed to the crime, gave confessions and compensated the damage to the injured party— reported the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea.
In the Saki district, a 20-year-old young man stole a moped from the yard of a pensioner’s home. The damage also amounted to 40 thousand rubles. The car thief was found within a few hours. The young man admitted his guilt. The stolen moped was seized and returned to its rightful owner.
In both the first and second cases, criminal cases were initiated under Part 2 of Art. 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Theft”). The sanction of the article provides for a maximum penalty of imprisonment for a term of up to five years.
