Carefully! Fraudsters began to kidnap money by sending off the shares of banks in Telegram
Krympress reports:
Fraudsters began to steal passwords from bank cards, and then money, sending phishing links to Telegram with a proposal to take part in shares of large banks or famous companies. About this TASS The Office for the Organization for the Control against the Unlawful Use of the Information and Communication Technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
Scammers convince a potential victim to subscribe to a fraudulent telegram channel, where they use a logo and an image similar to a recognizable branding bank. Then they offer to participate in a share that allows you to receive from 50 to 70% of cashback for purchases. At the same time, the link left by scammers leads to phishing sites. When crossing it from the bank customers, passwords or codes from SMS messages are requested, which immediately, when entering, fall into the hands of attackers.
Fraudsters actively use citizens’ trust in famous companies, creating the illusion of legitimacy by copying logos and corporate identity. At the same time, Telegram becomes a convenient platform for this because of its openness and relative anonymity of users, said Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications, the Federal Coordinator of the Digital Russia party project.
The peculiarity of this scheme is that attackers focus on attractive conditions, for example, “increased cashback” in order to cause quick emotions in the victim — the joy or desire not to miss the benefit. This reduces the critical thinking and makes people cross the links faster and enter confidential data without a thorough verification— notes the deputy.
It is important to remember that not a single bank or a large company will conduct shares through third-party channels without official confirmation in its application, on the site or through personal notifications in the Internet bank. Having received a tempting proposal in the messenger, it is necessary to immediately show vigilance: to check the information through official sources and in no case enter these card data on suspicious resources.
To combat such schemes, both technical measures from the platforms and banks, and increasing the digital literacy of users are needed. The simplest rule “Check the source-save your money” should become basic for everyone who uses online services— concluded Nemkin.
