Further, attackers are associated with the owner of the account — they direct the link and ask to cross it to restore the security of the account. In fact, this is a phishing link with which attackers get access to the victim data.
Telegram has long become one of the main platforms of the attacks of scammers, said Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Information Committee on the State Duma, federal coordinator of the Digital Russia party project. “Why is this happening — I see. In Russia, the average monthly Telegram audience has already exceeded 85 million users, and not so long ago, the messenger for the first time bypassed YouTube in the daily audience. Many Telegram users have become the main platform for communication and consumption of content. With the growth of popularity, the attention of scammers to the messenger increased and the attention of— the deputy explained.
At the same time, there are different schemes of fraud in the messenger, he noted.
From benches to target attacks. A scheme in which attackers are still a technical support for the service is still popular. Fraudsters contact users and report that on their behalf an application was submitted to remove the account. They also direct the phishing link leading to the fake page of the messenger authorization. Crossing it, the user may lose access to his account— said Nemkin.
According to him, the primary goal of such attacks is to capture someone else’s account.
Most users store important information in the messenger, including data from bank cards and official documents. In addition, in this way, accounts are subsequently used to conduct fraudulent attacks on other users— said the deputy.
Nemkin noted that representatives of the technical support of the messenger will never contact users the first.
All that may come is an information message, for example, about an attempt to enter the account. In addition, the service representative will never ask to inform the data of codes or passwords from two -factor authentication — this is information not intended for third parties— the deputy explained.
Before performing any actions in such situations, Nemkin should independently contact technical support and clarify all the details.
