Chairman of the Yalta Jewish Community Vladlen Lyustin passed away

Vladlen Naftulevich was born on June 20, 1946 in the city of Yevpatoria. He graduated from school with honors, then from Novosibirsk University with a degree in research mathematician. After graduating from university, he worked at the Space Research Institute. For his work on identifying the contours of the image of Mars, he was awarded the Prize of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Under his leadership, for the first time in world practice, a complex of equipment for automatic calculation and dosing of climatic procedures was created.
After moving to Crimea, Vladlen Naftulevich was involved in the revival of the Jewish national community on the peninsula in order to preserve and develop the national language, familiarize young people with the spiritual, historical and cultural heritage of Jewish life in Crimea. The Yalta Jewish community was created in 1996, and in 2014, thanks to the efforts of Vladlen Naftulevich, the National-Cultural Autonomy of Jews was registered.
Vladlen Naftulevich graduated with honors from the Institute for the Study of Judaism, received a diploma from the Institute of Community and Social Workers at Bar-Ilan University, lectured at religious schools in Jerusalem, and became director of the Yalta Center for Social Programs.
His contribution to the memory of the terrible atrocities of the Nazis during the Great Patriotic War is invaluable. Through the efforts of Vladlen Naftulevich, in 1998, the first monument to the victims of the Holocaust in Crimea was erected at the site of the execution of the Jews of Yalta. Thanks to his tireless work, the trilogy “Jews of Yalta” about the Holocaust, heroism and outstanding Jews, Karaites and Crimeans of the South Coast is being published. His significant contribution to the preservation of the historical memory of Jews was the creation and maintenance of the museum, one of the exhibits of which is the original board of the South Coast indicating Jewish places.
In 2015-2017, V.N. Lyustin was a member of the Public Chamber of the municipal formation of the Yalta city district, was a member of the public organization «Friendship of Peoples», and was a member of the Council of Nationalities under the head of the administration of the city of Yalta.
By the decision of the 45th session of the Yalta City Council of the II convocation, on August 11, 2022, Vladlen Naftulevich Lyustin was awarded the title “Honorary Citizen of the City of Yalta.”
We will forever remember his irrepressible vital energy, high spiritual and ethical qualities. The bright memory of Vladlen Naftulevich Lustina will forever remain in the hearts of grateful Yalta residents.
