Cheeses from Crimea recognized as some of the best in Russia

Crimean cheese makers won four awards at the specialized championship.
Four types of cheese produced in Crimea won gold and silver at the Russian Cheese Championship in the Moscow Region. This was reported by Crimea tourist portal. The jury selected from 150 samples from farms and cheese dairies in Crimea, Krasnodar Krai, Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kursk, Rostov regions. The quality of the cheese was also assessed by more than 120 thousand guests of the event.
As the organizers noted, each of the cheese samples presented at the Russian Cheese Championship went through six stages of selection. The jury was looking for the best producers of fresh and young cheeses, original designer cheeses, semi-hard and hard cheeses, with washed rind, with blue and white mold, as well as cheeses with additives and aged. All samples were coded, tasting was carried out individually and anonymously. This allowed the experts to objectively evaluate the quality of the product according to such criteria as taste, aroma, texture and appearance.
In the category «Young cheeses» the first place was awarded to stracciatella from Gorizont LLC, which is produced by the WINEPARK cheese factory of the Mriya Resort & SPA. The wine park cheesemakers took another award in the “Washed-rind cheese” category. Their Gruyere earned a silver medal.
Took gold in the category “Semi-hard and hard cheeses” kipia from cow’s milk of the producer «Lambat». This is a private cheese factory, which is located in the southern coastal village of Maly Mayak. In the category «Aged cheeses» Cheddar from goat’s milk of the same company was chosen as the silver prize winner.
The participants received high praise for their creations from leading cheese-making experts from Russia, Belarus, Switzerland, Germany and France, the championship organizers shared.
