Cherries are collected in Crimea
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Acting Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Crimea Alime Zaredinova announced that Crimean farmers have started harvesting cherries. In total, this year it is planned to harvest cherries on 536 hectares.
The largest areas of cherry orchards are concentrated in the farms of the Bakhchisarai, Krasnogvardeisky, Nizhnegorsky and Simferopol districts. Let me remind you that in 2023, the republic’s farmers collected 1,722 tons of cherries, which is a very good result. As of May 30, 2024, about 72 tons of cherries were harvested in the Republic of Crimea from an area of 34.5 hectares (6.4% of the planned one). The most popular varieties of cherries grown in the Republic of Crimea: Large-fruited, Valery Chkalov, Amulet, Melitopol black, Alexandria, Euphoria,” the department’s press service reported.
According to experts, the weather conditions of the current year (frosts in early May) did not affect the formation of the cherry harvest. The republic’s farmers plan to get a cherry harvest no less than last year. Farmers have begun mass harvesting of cherries, and they plan to complete the harvest by the end of July.
Alime Zaredinova noted that the development of horticulture in the Republic of Crimea is facilitated by the use of new intensive technologies in horticulture, improvement of production processes, use of high-quality planting material, and it is also important that agricultural enterprises receive significant financial support from the state. This year, the republican budget has allocated more than 559 million rubles for the development of gardening. Of which about 400 million rubles. has already been communicated to farmers. The funds are intended to compensate part of the cost of planting material (seedlings), trellises, and anti-hail netting. At the expense of state support in 2024, at least 700 hectares of new young orchards will be established in the Republic of Crimea.
