The basilica of 1935 was built in the 6th century AD. e. on the site of an earlier temple and received its modern name from the date of its archaeological discovery. The monument is a real calling card of the museum-reserve and is depicted on the 200 ruble banknote. The Fog Bell is another symbol of Chersonesos and Sevastopol with an interesting history and fate. It was cast in Taganrog from the cannons of a warship received as a trophy after the Russian-Turkish War of 1768‒1774. After the Crimean War, the bell was taken out and placed on the tower of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. It received its modern name due to the fact that upon returning to its homeland in 1913, it was used as a lighthouse, notifying sea vessels that they were approaching the coastal cliffs in foggy weather.

The area of the exhibition “Russia – a country of seas and oceans” is almost 2600 square meters. m. It provides information about more than 90 objects. They clearly illustrate the development of maritime infrastructure and fleet, show the process of development of natural resources and preservation of maritime cultural heritage. You can view the exhibition at the address: Kronstadt, Tsitadelskoye Shosse, 14. Its work will last until the end of May, admission is free.
