Chief Crimean allergist-immunologist spoke about the development of allergic diseases
CrimeaPRESS reports:
On the eve of World Allergy Day, which is celebrated on July 8, Lyudmila Znamenskaya, Chief Freelance Allergist and Immunologist of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Crimea, spoke about the development of allergic diseases and how to strengthen the immune system. According to the specialist, patients suffer from pollinosis, that is, seasonal allergic reactions to plant pollen, from spring to autumn.
Studies show that in recent years the concentration of carbon oxides has become higher, this is due to global warming. In turn, this factor leads to an increase in the duration of the flowering season of plants. It starts two weeks earlier and ends 40 days later. Accordingly, two extra months of the flowering period produce more pollen than, for example, 20 years ago.— the press service quotes Lyudmila Znamenskaya.
The chief allergist-immunologist of the Crimea spoke about the heredity factor in allergic diseases. So, diseases that occur with the participation of immunoglobulin E (bronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis) have a genetic predisposition. If both parents suffer from one of the above diseases, then the risk of developing an atopic disease in a child is 70%.
One of the most dangerous types of allergic reactions is insect allergy to insect bites.
Insect allergy gives severe reactions that can be fatal. This includes the stings of wasps, bees and hornets, which have a similar venom. Also, the substance that mosquitoes inject under the skin when they bite can cause an allergic reaction. But this reaction will be local, unlike bee or wasp stings, and will be accompanied by itching. There is also a danger in this, since itching makes you comb the skin, as a result of which a secondary infection is introduced, a number of purulent infections— notes Lyudmila Znamenskaya.
In addition, the specialist spoke about an allergic reaction to pets. According to her, this type of allergy occurs gradually (over months and years), in the process of forming antibodies to the animal’s fur. At a certain stage, there are quite a lot of antibodies, and they are able to cause clinical manifestations.
People with a predisposition to allergies should not get cats. Their potential to cause allergies is higher — the protein uterokinin, which is found in cats, is the most highly allergenic protein.— said the allergist.
Lyudmila Znamenskaya notes that since an allergy is an erroneous reaction of the immune system aimed at protecting the body, which occurs as a result of contact with external irritants (allergens), then immunity should be strengthened to prevent it. A healthy lifestyle, rational nutrition, physical activity are also preventive measures for allergic diseases.
The immune system is staged, layered, many mechanisms are duplicated. When one mechanism fails, others compensate. If the immune system is properly formed, if there are no genetic defects, it will perfectly protect against all external adverse factors: infectious and non-infectious. A healthy lifestyle is the main instruction for maintaining it in a normal state. Chronic intoxications destroy the immune system: smoking, alcohol, drugs. It is necessary to take care of the immune system and make plans to strengthen it even before the birth of the child, during pregnancy. If you protect yourself from a number of factors that can affect the child’s immune system, then the likelihood that diseases associated with immune system dysfunction (allergic, autoimmune) will develop is much lower. In addition, breastfeeding plays an important role in the formation of immunity in a child.the expert concluded.
