Chief freelance neurologist of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Crimea on measures to prevent cardiovascular diseases in the heat

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Abnormally hot weather can have a negative impact on the health of Crimeans who are at risk of developing cardiovascular diseases. In this regard, Larisa Korsunskaya, the chief freelance neurologist of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Crimea, reminded on the air of Radio Crimea how to maintain your health and prevent life-threatening conditions — stroke and heart attack.

Diseases such as stroke and myocardial infarction are not primary. Acute cerebrovascular accidents are always based on a serious pathology with which a person has been living for quite a long time. First of all, we are talking about arterial hypertension. There is a myth that high blood pressure necessarily manifests itself as headaches and other symptoms. However, in fact, arterial hypertension is usually asymptomatic. Only during a hypertensive crisis, when the pressure rises sharply, can we feel symptoms: headaches, rapid heartbeat, and others. A person can live with high blood pressure constantly and not feel it, but this is extremely dangerous for health.— the professor said.

All citizens over 30 years of age should regularly measure their blood pressure, especially patients whose parents, grandparents suffered from arterial hypertension. The normal range is: upper pressure — 120-130 mm Hg, lower — 80-85 mm Hg.

If blood pressure readings are constantly elevated, it is necessary to select a combination drug therapy with your doctor. As a rule, this is one or two tablets per day. The therapy lasts 24 hours, that is, you can not worry about a crisis for 24 hours. After two months of normal blood pressure readings when taking therapy, you can stop constant pressure monitoring.— the doctor explained.

However, when it’s very hot outside, people at high risk for cardiovascular disease need to get out their blood pressure monitor again and measure their blood pressure regularly.
