Choosing Painkillers for Summer Vacation: Expert Advice

CrimeaPRESS reports:

It’s already the middle of summer — the height of the holiday season. You can take a break from work, study, and household chores in different ways: some prefer seaside resorts, some travel and sightseeing excursions, some relax at their dacha or in the countryside. But wherever you relax, there is always a risk of encountering such troubles as overheating in the sun, inflammation, injuries, aching muscles and joints from fatigue. And all these ailments are united by one symptom — pain.

Universal solution

When preparing for a vacation, we always put painkillers in the first aid kit. But few of us think seriously about the choice — and just take the usual, proven medicine that has previously helped in this or that situation. However, it should be remembered that during a vacation, a pharmacy is not always nearby, and if the problem requires an immediate solution, then a universal painkiller is needed that will help quickly relieve a wide variety of pain.

And such drugs do exist – these are the so-called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). According to statistics, these are the ones that doctors most often recommend to patients. There are several reasons for this. The main one is their versatility: thanks to a special set of components, NSAIDs have an analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory effect. Therefore, they can be used for joint and muscle pain, headaches, toothaches, sprains, etc. Unlike steroid drugs, NSAIDs do not suppress the immune system and do not have a negative effect on metabolic processes. These drugs are affordable and easy to use – you can choose tablets, ointments, gels, and other forms.

But it should be noted that one of the disadvantages of most nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs is an increase in blood pressure, which increases the risk of cardiovascular complications. Therefore, older people and those who already suffer from hypertension should be especially careful and cautious when choosing NSAIDs.

Without increasing the pressure

Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, famous physician and TV presenter Elena Malysheva recommends that hypertensive patients use a drug based on naproxen, the publication reports dni.ru. Numerous studies conducted both in our country and abroad have shown that this drug has the highest level of cardiac safety among NSAIDs, it does not increase blood pressure and does not increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes. In Russia, naproxen is produced under the trade mark «Novema». An important advantage of the drug is the duration of action — the tablets «work» for 12 hours, which allows you to take them only twice a day. Naproxen is effective both in acute pain syndrome and in the treatment of long-term chronic pain.

In addition to the main drug, a special combination drug «Novema Night» is also offered, designed to relieve pain in insomnia. It contains naproxen and the sedative diphenhydramine. The combination of the two components gives a complex effect: it relieves pain, promotes rapid falling asleep and a full, healthy sleep without waking up at night.

Therefore, when going on a summer vacation — whether to the sea or to the country — do not forget to put the right NSAIDs in your medicine cabinet. Follow the recommendations of specialists on their correct use, taking into account the individual characteristics of your body — and pain will not spoil your vacation.

P.S. When using any medications, consult your doctor. There may be contraindications.
