“Coin Week”: residents of Sevastopol took out change from their piggy banks
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Residents of Sevastopol brought over 90,000 coins to commercial banks. These are the results of the “Coin Week” campaign, which took place throughout the country from September 25 to October 8.
In the total volume of exchange in the region, coins with a face value of 10 rubles significantly prevailed — there were almost 31,000 of them; coins with a face value of 50 kopecks were the least numerous — about 200 units. During “Coin Week,” in the branches of regional banks, Sevastopol residents could exchange the accumulated change for banknotes without a commission or credit the amount to their account. The goal of the promotion is to return coins to cash circulation.
Every year a large number of coins are issued in Russia, but a significant part of them is not returned to circulation, but ends up in people’s piggy banks and wallets. Meanwhile, these denominations are necessary for settlements, primarily in the field of trade and services. Holding “Coin Week” helps to return into circulation the small change that people have accumulated at home, as well as to reduce the cost of minting coins,” notes Deputy Manager of the Sevastopol Branch of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation Yuri Solomennik.
