Commentary by the Head of the Republic of Crimea Sergei Aksenov in connection with the Day of Remembrance of Crimean people and Jews of Crimea — victims of Nazism.

Today is the Day of Remembrance of Crimean people and Crimean Jews — victims of Nazism.

Sorrowful date. During the occupation of the peninsula, Nazi executioners killed tens of thousands of Crimean civilians.

At the Nuremberg trial, the whole world learned about the crimes of the Nazis. But then, in December ’41, many of our fellow countrymen still had no idea to what degree of brutality the occupiers could reach.

One of the eyewitnesses of the events, a resident of Simferopol, wrote in his diary:

“…Rumors are spreading that the Germans will shoot all the Jews. … Of course, this is nonsense. No matter how cruel the Germans are, they will not dare to exterminate civilians…»

This recording was made a few days before the start of mass executions on the tenth kilometer of the Feodosiya Highway on December 11, 1941.

History has shown more than once how quickly the husks of civilization fall away from a world that considers itself “civilized.” But those who sow the wind of hatred are sure to reap the storm that will destroy them. So it was with the Nazis of the 20th century, and so it will be with their current followers.

And here is another quote from the same author, which needs no comment:

“…Russian people went to the persecuted Jews, whom the Germans declared to be outcasts, and went to ask for these same outcast children. It was an unconscious protest, but great in its spiritual beauty… If in such a hopeless situation the spirit of the Russian people is not broken, then what other evidence is needed to convince us of the final victory of the Russian people?
