Core drills: features of use and advantages

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Processing metal products requires high precision. A conventional twist drill is not able to fully cope with the tasks. For a high-quality drilling process, the best option is annular drills. The annular drilling method is much more accurate, faster, the process occurs without unnecessary noise and effort, with maximum productivity. Allows you to make holes of various depths / lengths / diameters in a couple of seconds. The use of annular cutters (annular drills) requires much less energy, unlike the usual method classic metalworking.

Core drill: features of the tool

The annular cutter is hollow inside. Other features include:

  • small area of products, allowing to create the required dimensions/volumes of uneven holes;
  • cut parts of metal surfaces without chips – energy costs for processing are reduced;
  • During the processing, the ring phases come into contact only with the outer edges of the provided holes – saving equipment power;
  • can be used on milling, turning, drilling machines, metal cutting equipment.

Hollow structures make it easy to make holes of various diameters – from 12 to 150 millimeters. Drilling depth – up to 200 millimeters.

Settings and features of the core drill

The center of the annular cutter is not connected to the sharpenings. The central part is the guide pins. The alignment procedure consists of several stages:

  • with the help of pilot devices, positioning of annular drills is performed;
  • after the start of work, the centralizer begins to sink, and the spring is compressed;
  • At the end of the process, the pilot is moved back to its original position, while simultaneously pushing the core out of the drill.

The most productive tools have carbide teeth and are made of high-speed metal. The choice of tool is influenced by the strength characteristics of the metal and the size of the holes. For drilling large diameter holes, it is worth considering models made of high-quality steel. Other options include inexpensive core drills with minimal requirements, having good aesthetics.

Core drills: advantages

The use of this type of drill has many advantages:

1. No need to use high power equipment; large diameter holes can be drilled in one go without the need for pre-drilling.

2. It is possible to drill products with an overlap.

3. Minimum effort when working.

4. High quality of the processed coating when drilling with minimal roughness. There are practically no disadvantages of annular drills. One minus: it is impossible to drill a blind hole.

You can see the drilling tools in the catalog www.rodmix.ru. According to the types of specific purposes, annular drills are selected taking into account the length/diameter.
