Craftsmen from the DPR visited Tauric Chersonesos

CrimeaPRESS reports:

The museum-reserve, continuing the tradition of hospitality of the ancient city, is always glad to see guests. So today, a delegation of artisans from the DPR arrived to see the spring Chersonese, learn its history and get acquainted with the main sights. The craftsmen arrived in Sevastopol at the invitation of the City Chamber of Crafts in order to establish cultural ties and cooperation in organizing joint exhibitions and projects.

Despite the saturation of the business program of the delegation from the DPR, its participants could not help but visit one of the iconic places of Sevastopol — Tauric Chersonese. The guide Melissa Sus spoke about the creation of the first ancient Greek settlement here, its transformation into an independent city-state, about the life and life of its citizens. The guests learned that Chersonesos existed for about two thousand years, was under the influence of the Roman Empire and Byzantium for a long time, fell into disrepair as a result of raids by nomads of the 13th-14th centuries and was revived in the 19th century as an archaeological monument. The masters got acquainted with the fortifications of the ancient city, with its political structure, military affairs, culture and traditions, they saw the model of the Oath of the citizens of Chersonesus, the Antique Theater, the Mint, the Foggy Bell and other sights of the historical and archaeological monument of world importance.

On the eve of Easter, special attention was paid to that epochal event, thanks to which Chersonesos was destined to become the cradle of Orthodoxy in Rus’. On the square near St. Vladimir’s Cathedral, the guide told the guests about the baptism of Prince Vladimir in 988, as well as about the Russian emperor under which the decision was made to build this majestic temple.

The guests of the museum-reserve got a real pleasure walking along the streets of the ancient city and studying its history. We hope that they will visit this outpost of ancient civilizations, majestically rising above the Black Sea, more than once. We wish them creative and professional success, as well as fruitful cooperation with the Chamber of Crafts of Sevastopol and invite them to visit Tauric Chersonesos again.
