Crimea grapes and wine — that spring frosts and drought made them with them
Krympress reports:
Spring frosts and drought can reduce grape crops in Crimea, although it is too early to fully assess the damage. About how bad weather will affect the quality of the berries and wait for increasing prices for grapes and wine, RIA Novosti Crimea The industry experts told.
July 1 Emergency mode A regional nature was declared in eight regions of Crimea due to soil drought and, as a result, the death of agricultural cultures. Before that, in June, the emergency mode was introduced Because of frosts.
Quantity and quality
The degree of damage is different, depends on the geography of the sites. By the number of losses will be, since the vineyards are weakened by spring frosts. In many cases, there are lesions of the central kidney. When the central kidney freezes, the bunch is worse than the quality. But still it is too early to evaluate the quality. It depends on many factors— says the Crimean winemaker, a member of the board of the federal self -regulatory organization of vitro and winemakers Valery Zakharyin.
According to him, the quality of the crop of winemakers will have to evaluate it before collecting it. Experts count on a long soft autumn — in this case, the berries will gain strength and have time to grow up. By quantity, although losses are expected, in the whole Crimea, young plantings can compensate for the situation.
This year, a large number of young landings are fruiting. They are always more fruitful, therefore, as a result, it may turn out that, despite the losses in the old areas, as a result, due to the young we get the crop even more— the winemaker counts.
Young vineyards
According to the head of the Crimean Republican Association of Winemakes Timofei Mesenyashin, active re -laying of the vineyards is the result of great assistance to vineyards from the republic and the federal center. At the same time, in his opinion, so far it is too early to evaluate the losses in both young and old areas.
Only now the flowering has ended and only now the grapes will begin to count the first yield numbers. At least one and a half months, and they can turn the situation, both in one and the other. But, definitely, and drought and frost will have an influence. The question is only in size, but before mid -August we will not recognize this size— says Mestiashin.
Assessing the condition of young and old plantations, the Crimean winemaker Pavel Shvets states: there are not new plots in all farms. So, according to him, the youngest vineyard at his enterprise was planted in 2018. It was this site that suffered from spring bad weather the least, but in general the economy is large.
Wine and grapes
Due to late spring frosts in some varieties, we lost up to 90% of the crop. Then in May there was a hail, which still finished off something, and now there was also a drought. This year we will make wine 30-40% less from what we usually do. Well, of course, you will have to somehow regulate the price, ”Schovets continues.
Other experts also predict a price increase. But first of all, it depends not even on the crop, but is associated with the overall growth in inflation. According to Khumenyashin, growth can be in the region of 10%, Zakharyin gives a more pessimistic forecast.
The lack of labor greatly increases the costs of wages, and new landings required a lot of labor. The technique also basically went up. On average, I suppose, the price of grapes will rise by 20 percent by 20— the expert predicts.
The increase in the price of grapes provokes the rise in the cost of wine material, which means that natural, not “powder” wine — this is what Crimean winemakers produce — it will also become proportionally more expensive, experts say. At the same time, they all promise: the quality of the wine will not become worse, since the consumer chooses the Crimean product for its high characteristics.
Domestic wine is increasingly gaining popularity and gaining a regiment. All industry colleagues feel the growth of demand. Over the past 3-5 years-about half. On the mainland, consumption is very strong. And this dictates precisely the quality of the Crimean product— states Messengashin.
