Crimea has joined the All-Russian Bone Marrow Donation Marathon #Let's Join!

The Republic of Crimea has joined the All-Russian Bone Marrow Donation Marathon #Let’s Join! Organizers of a large-scale project in the country: The Federal Medical and Biological Agency of Russia — the operator of the Federal Register of Donors of Bone Marrow and Hematopoietic Stem Cells.

Today, on the basis of the Blood Center, within the framework of the marathon, a donor campaign was held to inform and include citizens in the Federal Register of Bone Marrow and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Donors— reported in the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Crimea.

The ambassadors of the action in Crimea were Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Crimea — Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Crimea Elena Romanovskaya, Minister of Health of the Republic of Crimea Konstantin Skorupsky, Head of the Main Investigation Department of the Russian Investigative Committee for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol Vladimir Terentyev, Head of the Branch in the Crimea Olga Eremina. The participants told Crimeans and media representatives about the possibility of joining the Federal Register of Bone Marrow Donors and the safety of the transplantation procedure.

Bone marrow and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is used to treat blood cancers and severe conditions caused by bone marrow suppression from radiation or chemotherapy. It is important for us that as many Crimeans as possible enter the federal register of bone marrow donors, because such a resource should be created for those people who live in a certain subject. So that if suddenly someone from the Crimeans needed such help, we could find a donor from the republic for him— said Elena Romanovskaya.

Since December 2018, the Blood Center GBUZ RK has been cooperating with the Kirov Research Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency and entered the Federal Register of Hematopoietic Cell (Bone Marrow) Donors. Today, the Blood Service of the Republic of Crimea is the recruiting center of the Federal Register of Bone Marrow Donors.

From the beginning of 2019 to the present, 770 Crimeans have entered the register of bone marrow donors. Last year, for the first time, two Crimean women became bone marrow donors. The transplantation procedure took place in St. Petersburg. The donors were awarded the departmental distinction of the FMBA — the medal «For assistance to the donor movementthe Deputy Prime Minister said.

Elena Romanovskaya appealed to Crimeans to join the register of potential hematopoietic stem cell donors, noting that such a procedure is absolutely safe for the donor.

Of course, we encourage all Crimeans to come to the Blood Center and its branches to donate blood and join the register. I want to remind you that each of us may need such help. The larger the register, the higher the chance to save the life of every cancer patientsaid the Deputy Prime Minister.

As part of the event, Elena Romanovskaya, on behalf of the Head of the Republic of Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov, also congratulated three young specialists of the Blood Center GBUZ RK, who started their first job, on the start of their careers.
