Russian holiday accommodation booking service TVIL.RU conducted a survey on social networks on the topic: where exactly did they try the most delicious honey? And here is what they answered.
1. Bashkir honey came in first place, chosen by 29% of voters. Many consider Bashkir honey to be the best in the country, because the honey plants here are the purest flowering meadows, not fields of buckwheat and sunflower. And Bashkortostan is also home to a unique wild honey bee, which inhabits tree hollows and homemade beehives. Only here has the ancient craft of beekeeping, the collection of honey from wild bees, been preserved. It is not for nothing that the city of Ufa is called the honey capital.
2. In second place is Krasnodar Krai, chosen by 17% of voters. In Kuban, the history of beekeeping goes back several centuries. Today, on the Black Sea coast, you can buy buckwheat, alpine, and linden honey. And also rare varieties — blueberry, chestnut, eucalyptus.
3. In third place is Crimea, chosen by 16% of voters. Crimean honey is also considered unique in its taste and medicinal qualities. There are varieties here that you won’t find anywhere else – lavender honey and sage honey.
4. 12% of voters voted for the Altai Territory. They say that the fields of the Altai Territory have a huge variety of flowering plants. That is why the honey has a rich taste. The only thing missing here is linden honey, since there are not so many linden trees. And May honey, since they start pumping honey in the Altai Territory in July.
5. Tambov Oblast was chosen by 10% of voters. The region is located in very favorable climatic conditions, where herbs and honey plants bloom almost simultaneously, so it is considered one of the best places for beekeeping. Tambov Oblast produces no less honey than Bashkiria.
6. Stavropol Krai was chosen by 6% of subscribers. The honey here is also very tasty. According to beekeepers, several breeds of bees are bred in Stavropol: Carpathian, Central Russian, Caucasian, Carnica and Buckfast bees.
7. Primorsky Krai collected 4% of the votes. The endemics of Primorsky Krai allow collecting unique varieties of honey from dimorphanthus, Amur cork tree, araliaceae and other plants. Each variety of Primorsky honey has its own extraordinary medicinal properties.
8. 3% of voters voted for Tatarstan. There is a lot of buckwheat and linden honey, as well as rapeseed and sunflower honey. Black maple honey is considered a unique local specialty — it is used not only in medicine, but also in cosmetology.
9. Perm Krai was chosen by 2% of subscribers. The lower temperatures of the region than in southern latitudes lead to faster biochemical reactions in plants. Bees here throw more enzymes into the nectar, which makes Perm honey very healthy and tasty.
10. Rostov Region – the choice of 1% of all voters. Rostov Region is a fairly favorable place for beekeeping. Many wild flowers grow here. The most honey-producing areas of the region are in the north and in the Don delta.
