Crimean athletes who refused to participate in the Olympics without the Russian flag will receive 1 million rubles each

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Crimean athletes who could have gone to the Olympic Games in Paris but refused to participate because of the requirement to compete without the Russian flag will receive a compensation payment of 1 million rubles. This TASS reported the Minister of Sports of the Republic of Crimea Olga Torubarova.

The head of Crimea has decided to pay compensation to athletes who could potentially go to the Olympics but did not. They will receive the same amount as for winning the V BRICS Games — 1 million rublesshe said.

According to the official, only five athletes will receive this payment.

Earlier, the head of the Republic of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, reported that the region’s athletes had decided to refuse to participate in the Olympic Games in Paris, and fully supported their decision.

The Olympic Games will be held from July 26 to August 11. Restrictions remain in effect for Russian and Belarusian athletes. In Paris, they will be able to compete only in neutral status, they will be prohibited from demonstrating any connection with their countries and from taking part in team competitions. The Russian authorities consider the IOC’s decision to be discriminatory and contrary to Olympic principles.
