To the Department of Cardiac Surgery of the Multidisciplinary Republican Medical Center of the State Budgetary Healthcare Institution of the Republic of Crimea “Republican Clinical Hospital named after. N. A. Semashko» On December 19, 2023, a patient was urgently admitted with acute dissection of the ascending aorta and arch of the aorta. The patient needed urgent surgical intervention, otherwise the risk of death in such situations without surgery is 90%. This unique case was reported by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Crimea.

As Ivan Davydov, chief freelance cardiovascular surgeon of the Crimean Ministry of Health, said, during the operation, cardiac surgeons replaced the entire ascending aorta and part of the aortic arch with a special prosthesis. A similar operation using selective antegrade monohemispheric brain perfusion was performed in Crimea for the first time.

During the intervention, circulatory arrest technology was also used, when for 40 minutes it is possible to completely stop the blood supply to the entire body, except the brain, while the patient’s body temperature is cooled to 26 degrees. Thus, during the operation, not only the brain is protected, but other organs and tissues are practically not affected.said the doctor.

A team of specialists performed surgery within nine hours. The operation was successful and the patient is currently preparing for discharge.
