Crimean chess player Sergei Karyakin responded to the threats he receives for supporting the SVO

Grandmaster Sergey Karyakin said in an interview RIA Newsthat he is fully aware of the reality of all threats against himself and his family for openly supporting the SVO and takes appropriate security measures.

A native of Simferopol, Karjakin publicly supported the SVO from the first days, for which he was disqualified by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) and missed the Candidates Tournament for the world crown. Karjakin later stated that in international tournaments he would fundamentally play only under the Russian flag, and not in a neutral status as decided by FIDE. The Grandmaster has visited new Russian regions more than once on a humanitarian mission.

I completely agree with you that these are not mythical threats, but absolutely real ones. I am taking certain measures to protect myself and my family, but I would not like to specify anything now. In any case, I record all the threats that I receive, consult with lawyers and transmit information to certain law enforcement agenciessaid Karyakin.

The Crimean chess player, who, although he lives in another region, regularly visits the peninsula, recently visited Artek, where he and the guys baked pies for our soldiers — participants of the Northern Military District.

He constantly takes part in patriotic, humanitarian missions, one way or another related to the topics of special operations and the life of new regions. Just look at the “Donetsk Shift” project, aimed at resting and rehabilitating children from the line of combat contact…

But here it’s just like in life: goodness is punishable. The grandmaster became the object of hate from “non-brothers.”

I am grateful to all people for their support, because I was subjected to a very powerful psychological attack, especially in the first days and months of the SVO. It was very difficult, but the help of many helped me get through this difficult moment. I can’t tell you everything, but several times I received calls with direct threats. And then the relevant specialists dealt with these issuesnoted the agency’s interlocutor.
