Crimean farmers are harvesting sunflowers
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Crimean farmers have already harvested almost 70% of the area sown with sunflowers. This was announced by the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Crimea Andrey Savchuk. Almost 55 thousand tons of crop seeds were threshed from more than 37 thousand hectares.
Our farmers harvest sunflowers in 13 regions. In two districts: Krasnoperekopsky and Leninsky, 99% of the area has already been cleared. At the moment, the average yield is 14.8 centners per hectare. Some of the seeds from the new harvest are sent to our processing plants. There are such production facilities in Crimea. There are few of them, since sunflower is not the main crop for our region. But the capacity is enough to process about 36.5 thousand tons per year,” the press service quotes the head of the Ministry of Agriculture of Crimea.
The minister also said that one of the large factories where Crimean seeds are currently processed is the First Crimean Creamery in the Krasnogvardeisky district. It can process up to 100 tons of sunflower seeds per day. From the fields, the seeds enter the bunker, after which they go through the stages of cleaning, roasting and are sent under a press to extract oil and produce cake.
Part of the unrefined oil goes to local bakeries and confectionery shops, and part to the mainland. The plant plans to loop its production cycle: to complete a refining and packaging line so that our oil reaches Crimean shelves, — notes Andrey Savchuk.
According to the company, during the 2023-2024 agricultural season, the plant plans to process approximately 25-30 thousand tons of sunflower seeds.
