Crimean farmers prepare sugar beet seedlings for wintering
CrimeaPRESS reports:
This year, in Crimea, an area of about 460 hectares was sown with sugar beet seeds for the harvest 2023 of the year.
The plants are ready for wintering and now they are in good condition. I want to note that every year the area under sowing of sugar beet seedlings in the Crimea is increasing. So, for 4 years it has grown more than four times , — quotes the press service of the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Crimea Andrey Savchuk.
The Minister of Agriculture of the Crimea also said that in winter the plants should go into the rosette phase. Therefore, in order to reduce the impact of low temperatures on the testes and facilitate their overwintering, it is necessary to spud the stems with soil. There is another option, stekling root crops are dug up in the fall and stored in a room with artificial cooling and air humidification.
Sugar beet is one of the most important strategic crops that ensure food security in our country. The climatic conditions of the Crimea make it possible to grow seed plants of this root crop on the fields of the peninsula for Russian agricultural enterprises. This year, farmers have harvested more than 200 tons of crop seeds. I would like to emphasize that the import substitution of sugar beet seeds is one of the most important tasks set at the federal level, which the Crimean farmers are coping with , Andrey Savchuk notes.
Recall that in the Crimea, sugar beet seedlings are grown by several enterprises: Agromax LLC, Oktyabrskoe LLC, Chapaeva-2 LLC, Dneprovsky LLC, First Crimean Agrarian Company LLC, as well as the Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture of Crimea.
