Crimean police report a new scheme of online fraudsters — “about taxes”
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The Crimean police spoke about new tricks of online scammers. The next scheme is simple and even primitive, but, as it turned out, it works. The theme is the old one: “protect your bank account.” Only this time from… “taxes”.
On behalf of banks, scammers send email warnings that a new tax will soon be written off from accounts. If a person does not urgently go into his personal account and does not sign an application to refuse payments, he will transfer tens of thousands of rubles to the budget every month,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea said.
Warnings about the new tax are coming to clients from all major banks; scammers even style the letters to suit each specific one. The amounts also vary: from several tens to hundreds of thousands of rubles.
In fact, all these “tours on wheels” are only for one thing – gaining access to the victim’s personal bank account.
By clicking on the link in the letter, a fake bank website will open, where you must provide a phone number to log into your personal account and sign the “tax waiver application.” Fraudsters will see this number, enter it on the real bank website and gain access to their personal account,” the police noted.
People, be careful!
