Crimean police warn: if you receive a call from a “mobile operator” and talk about a SIM card, they are scammers
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The Crimean police warn: fraudulent calls from “mobile operators” have been increasingly recorded lately.
Contrary to a common myth actively used by scammers, a SIM card issued by major Russian mobile operators does not have an expiration date and, therefore, does not require renewal. Telecom operator specialists will never ask subscribers for codes from SMS messages to confirm any actions— reported the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea.
The wave of fraudulent activity related to calls made on behalf of a mobile operator can be explained, among other things, by the end of the year. It is at this time that various communication service contracts most often end, and companies offer new tariffs.
The deception scheme involving calls on behalf of a mobile operator with a requirement to renew a contract for a SIM card differs from standard fraudulent calls, for example, allegedly from the bank security service or from law enforcement agencies. In such fraudulent calls, there is usually no pressure on citizens and no aggression is shown. On the contrary, scammers try to look as caring and interested in the well-being of the subscriber as possible in order to convince him to renew the contract for a SIM cardnoted the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea.
How to deal with this? Do not enter into dialogue under any circumstances, cut off the call, and immediately seek help from law enforcement officers.
