Crimean recruiters trust verbal recommendations more

Every fifth recruiter does not trust either verbal recommendations or letters of recommendation, however, recommendations work and in most cases contribute to employment. Representatives of companies from Crimea took part in the SuperJob service survey.
There are more recruiters who trust verbal recommendations: 47% versus 17% who trust letters of recommendation. 19% of company representatives do not trust any recommendations. Most often, recruiters ask for recommendations from applicants applying for management positions, positions of engineers and accountants. In the practice of recruiters, in most cases, recommendations were positive and candidates were hired (59%). However, company representatives insist that they hired specialists “on the basis of merit,” and not just because they had good recommendations. For 67% of recruiters, recommendations are more of a primary selection criterion than a decisive argument for hiring,” noted the service’s press service.
Whose recommendations carry more weight in the eyes of hiring managers? The vast majority of recruiters prefer oral and written recommendations from candidates’ immediate superiors (86%).
