Crimean rescuers named three main reasons for incidents in the mountains
CrimeaPRESS reports:
December 11 is International Mountain Day.
Today, December 11, the world celebrates International Mountain Day. Its main goal is to preserve the natural wealth of the world, support the indigenous inhabitants of mountainous areas, and raise people’s awareness of the problems and importance of mountain ranges. Crimea is famous for its mountainous terrain and attracts tourists from all over the world. They often get into trouble: they get lost in the fog on the yayla, break their legs on rocks, and fall into karst sinkholes. And then those people come to the rescue who are able to find a person anywhere on a plateau, cliff or cave and help him get out. The specialized detachment of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Republic of Crimea is a detachment of professionals who know the area very well and are always ready to organize a rescue operation at the first call.
Incidents in the Crimean mountains happen very often. Over the course of the year, rescuers from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations were called upon to provide assistance in mountainous and forested areas more than 120 times. In this case, 145 people were saved. Basically, all cases occur due to people’s negligence towards their own safety.— said the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Republic of Crimea and named the main causes of incidents in the mountains.
Top 3 causes of accidents in the mountains:
— Wrong choice of clothes and shoes. Most injuries occur precisely because a person went for a walk in the mountains without wearing sports shoes. In addition, in the mountains the weather can change very quickly. In the morning the sun shines, and in the afternoon it snows. This is not at all uncommon. It is important to choose the right clothes and equipment and be prepared for anything.
— Lpeople don’t think through their route and they don’t know how to navigate the forest at all. The fact is that every smartphone now has maps installed and a GPS module, but most do not know how to work with them at all.
— Aalcohol. Cases of people falling from heights under the influence of strong drinks have become more frequent. Many of them are fatal. Not long ago there was a case when a married couple celebrated the purchase of a plot of land with a realtor at a vacation spot near a cliff. When we celebrated, we drank. And when they decided to leave, for some reason they backed out… straight into the abyss. Two did not survive; the woman miraculously escaped by flying out of the window.
Many will say that rescuers are heroes who do not wear capes; they will say that they are fans of their work, that they are capable of the impossible. And at the same time, no one will make a mistake.
