Crimean reservoirs need protection against «flowering» — global warming, they say
Krympress reports:
According to Anatoly Kopachevsky, so far, thanks to the use of additional underground water intakes to power settlements, in the reservoirs of Crimea it is possible to prevent a critical drop in water volumes and, therefore, an increase in its temperature.
And this is very important, the expert emphasized, since heating leads to an increase in such a phenomenon as eutrification, that is, the “flowering” of the reservoir.
Algae will appear, and all processes are related to this: smell, color— said Kopachevsky.
Previously, this phenomenon in Crimea was less pronounced, moreover, short -term, but now, in the conditions of global warming and increasing temperatures in the atmosphere by several degrees, the situation has changed, the expert warned.
It is one thing when it lasts a very short period of time, say, a week. The water is clean, transparent, but has a smell. And another, when it lasts a month, two, three, and all this in the summer. There will be a significant inconvenience for the user. And it will be more difficult to purify such water, ”said Kopachevsky.
Perhaps this year this will not happen in Crimea, but in the most dry period, it will certainly happen, as is already happening in other regions of Russia, and Crimea will not be an exception, the expert warned.
If the phenomena were not previously observed, then there is no technology for them. That is, now is the time to say that it is necessary to develop new methods or improve existing ones, raise questions about research and additional measures related to the reconstruction or intensification of treatment facilities, because the standard are not enough for the standard— says Kopachevsky.
In general, it is necessary to comprehensively upgrade the Crimean reservoir control system taking into account climatic changes, including adjusting the regimes of their purification in conditions of new challenges, he added.
This issue is dealt with by specific specialized organizations that have appropriate competencies— said Kopachevsky.
According to Ilya Nikolenko, the this problem is global, since around the world almost all surface ponds increase in the same anthropogenic load.
Different substances get there: organics, herbicides, life products. So, this is a matter of modernization of water protection zones. Because on the one hand, the temperature rises, and on the other, the side of the water changes. Maybe these are microdoses, but all together creates such risks. And all over the world, scientists decide how to deal with this, seek new methods of cleaning and protecting surface reservoirs— concluded the expert.
