Crimean scientists have developed a program of rehabilitation of patients with kidney diseases
Krympress reports:
Scientists of the Crimean Federal University. V. I. Vernadsky developed a comprehensive program for medical rehabilitation for patients who are on replacement renal therapy. It allows you to effectively restore the patient’s mobility and increase physical performance. This was announced by the head of the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Medicine of the Medical Institute KFU named after V.I. Vernadsky Evgeny Krutikov.
Recently, the number of patients with kidney diseases has been growing in the world, and the number of patients with terminal renal failure increases from year to year. The method of replacement renal therapy — software hemodialysis — today is the only widely used method for treating the terminal stage of renal failure. Some patients have been on software hemodialysis for more than ten years. This is a long period, and, of course, you need to help patients adapt. The main task of nephrologists is to help patients socially adapt in life and improve their quality of life, and medical rehabilitation helps us in this— said Evgeny Krutikov.
According to the obtained data of the world scientific community, the level of quality of life and mortality in such patients correlates with the level of their physical activity, and the effectiveness of physical training programs directly depends on the frequency of classes and their regularity.
Almost all such patients, regardless of the experience of dialysis therapy, are characterized by a decrease in physical performance. Medical rehabilitation is aimed at eliminating the consequences of the disease and related life restrictions. Rehabilitation is performed by a multidisciplinary rehabilitation team based on a biopsychosocial approach. The team includes a nefrologist, a doctor of physical rehabilitation medicine, an exercise therapist instructor, an ergotherapist, a clinical psychologist”Said Elena Minina, head of the department of medical rehabilitation, sports medicine and adaptive physical culture of the KFU Medical Institute.
According to the expert, the relevance of the problem is that, despite the high degree of evidence of the use of various physical exertion, there is still no universal scheme, which, taking into account limiting factors and a personified approach, would be effective and accessible to all groups of patients, on hemodialysis.
In the KFU rehabilitation center, patients underwent examination throughout 2024, and they developed a comprehensive medical rehabilitation program, which included a unique functional diagnostic unit with a cometuter optical topography, a comprehensive analysis of functional state, a block of special medical physical education programs with the inclusion of medical gymnastics , breathing and recreational-motor training, as well as physiotherapy using the methodology of electromagnetic radiation of extremely high frequency. All this made it possible to develop an effective and convenient for patients in implementing a rehabilitation program that allows you to improve the functional state of the body, — Says the head of the scientific and clinical center «Technology of Health and Rehabilitation» KFU named after V.I. Vernadsky Elena Biryukova.
Physical exercises of therapeutic exercises at the initial stages eliminate biomechanical and kinesiological disorders associated with a sedentary way of life, pain symptoms and insufficient muscle strength. At the next stages, patients form a resource of the cardiorespirator system to increase endurance in the performance of physical activity. The introduction of psychocorrection measures into the program of medical rehabilitation allows you to form the optimal commitment of patients on hemodialysis to perform motor rehabilitation procedures, which requires the manifestation of volitional qualities, organization and desire to increase their motor activity.
In September 2025, on the basis of the Medical Institute and the Scientific and Clinical Center «Health and Rehabilitation Technology» KFU named after V. I. Vernadsky starts a program for advanced training of additional professional education, designed for specialists of the multidisciplinary rehabilitation team “Organization of multidisciplinary approach to patients of patients on hemodialysis”.
