Crimean Scythian gold is transferred by the Netherlands to Ukraine. Comment by Sergey Aksyonov

CrimeaPRESS reports:

The head of the Republic of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov commented on the question of journalists about the decision of the Supreme Court of the Netherlands, which decided to transfer the Scythian gold to Ukraine. According to him, this decision was expected.

It was clear that the court would issue a verdict without regard to the law, based on political expediency. The West acts in relation to Russia, following the logic of war, and in war, as they say, all means are good. If Russian gold and foreign exchange reserves were simply stolen, then it would be strange to expect justice in relation to the Crimean collection— said the Head of the Crimea.

According to Sergei Aksyonov, the situation can be changed and the collection can be returned only by completing the tasks of the SVO, provided that the Scythian gold … is brought to Kyiv.

Recall that in 2013, a collection of Scythian gold of almost two thousand items was taken out of the Crimea and transferred to exhibitions in Europe. On December 14, 2016, the Amsterdam District Court decided to give the Scythian gold to Ukraine. Subsequently, four Crimean museums, where the gold was originally stored, issued a collective statement and the intention to appeal this court decision.

In October 2021, the Amsterdam Court of Appeal ruled that the decision to transfer the collection to Ukraine remains in force. On June 9, 2023, the Supreme Court of the Netherlands rejected the cassation appeal of the Crimean museums and confirmed the earlier decision of the Court of Appeal, according to which the Allard Pearson Museum, which is responsible for storing the exhibits, must transfer the collection to Ukraine.
