Crimeans are a trusting people. Another story about a woman, a bank account and withdrawals from it

A 50-year-old local resident contacted the duty station of the Krasnoperekopsky Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia with a statement about the theft of money from a bank account. The woman explained that an unknown person called her on the phone, who introduced herself as an employee of the state security service and reported that her interlocutor’s personal online banking account had been hacked. To prevent scammers from withdrawing money, the false employee asked to install a special application for remote access on her smartphone and, distracting the victim’s attention, forwarded the call to a bank security officer to receive supposed step-by-step instructions. During the telephone conversation, the victim had doubts. She went to the nearest bank branch, where she learned that funds had been written off from her account.

As a result of operational search activities, police officers established the involvement of a 20-year-old resident of the Krasnodar Territory in the commission of a crime. He had already been prosecuted before. Having no regular income, the guy decided to find a casual job. While studying the Internet, he found a scheme for illegally cashing out and transferring funds from citizens’ bank cards. Using a voice changing application and gaining remote access to the victim’s phone, the defendant realized his selfish plan. The amount of damage amounted to almost 60 thousand rubles. The attacker disposed of the stolen funds at his own discretion.

An investigator of the Krasnoperekopsky Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 3 of Art. 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (theft). The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for up to 6 years.

The police remind you that bank employees never ask clients for bank card details (its number, information about the owner and expiration date, as well as the security codes indicated on the back). If you believe that unauthorized transactions are actually being carried out with your savings in your account, do not accept offers from people you do not know. It is better to contact the bank yourself using the official phone numbers that are indicated on the card itself or contact the nearest office.
