Crimeans are helping to revive student groups in new territories of the Russian Federation

This year, 120 students from the Zaporozhye region worked as counselors, guides and service workers on labor projects in the Republic of Crimea. The work was carried out within the framework of classical student labor teams under the leadership of the regional headquarters of student teams of Crimea.

On the initiative of the Crimean regional branch of the Russian student brigades, work began in 2022 to revive the student brigade movement among students at universities and colleges in the Zaporozhye region, and in April 2023 a founding conference was held to create the Zaporozhye regional branch of the Russian Socialist Republic.

At first, the team at the headquarters of the Crimean student brigades had serious concerns: would Zaporizhzhya students be interested in creating their own student labor brigades? But the very first meetings showed genuine interest among students from Melitopol and Berdyansk to try themselves in the student brigade movement. What is important is that the initiative was supported both at the level of management of educational organizations and at the level of teachers— said Vladimir Kaidansky, head of the Crimean regional branch of the Russian North Ossetia.

In two years, more than two hundred students have already passed through the student teams of the Zaporozhye region, of which 40 people worked in the Republic of Crimea in 2023, and already in 2024 120 people worked. The most popular areas of work among Zaporozhye students are work as counselors, conductors of passenger cars and workers in the hospitality and service sector. Thus, this year, students from Melitopol and Berdyansk actively helped in the work of children’s health in Crimea, working in children’s camps as part of the Interregional Student Pedagogical Team “Evpatoria”, and in terms of production indicators they were among the top three teams in the labor project.

In addition to work activities, Crimean and Zaporozhye student teams have built good cooperation in labor volunteerism. With the direct participation of the two sides, labor landings are taking place both on the territory of the Zaporozhye region and on the territory of the Republic of Crimea. In February of this year, Crimeans went to participate in landscaping and cleaning work in Melitopol, Akimovka, Novodanilovka, Volchansky, Novovasilyevka and Priazovsky. And in March and October, student teams from the Zaporozhye region came to Crimea to participate in a labor landing to clean and improve the monuments of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

Work on the development of student teams in the Zaporozhye region continues. And specialized schools, festivals and rallies are aimed at this, where, under the patronage of the regional headquarters of the Crimean student detachments, methodological training of Zaporozhye students is carried out to participate in the detachment movement. Thus, at the end of September, in Berdyansk, for the first time, a meeting of student teams of new territories was held, which brought together more than 100 participants from the DPR, LPR, Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions, and on October 12, in Melitopol, as part of the Communication Forum, a school of active student teams of the Zaporozhye region was held. At such events, students learn not only the history of the student brigade movement and regulatory documentation for carrying out work activities, but also learn to build relationships with employers and the management of educational organizations, organize and conduct events for RSO fighters, conduct propaganda work among students, and also undergo project training activities for participation in grant competitions.

Crimeans, like no one else, understand how difficult it is to revive the labor detachment movement in the region after a long break. We started in 2015 and it was quite difficult to form the idea among both students and employers that we were not volunteers, but labor collectives. But the interest of students, help from our colleagues from other regions, allowed us to quickly enter the top ten regional branches of Russian student teams. Today we can share our experience on how to revive the detachment movement in the region. And it is very pleasant for us to work with motivated students of the Zaporozhye region who want to contribute to the development of our country and their region through their work,” noted Ekaterina Denesyuk, an employee of the headquarters of the Crimean student brigades.

REFERENCE. Russian student teams (RSO) are one of the largest youth organizations in Russia, operating in 83 regions. More than three hundred thousand young people in the ranks of the RSO worked this year at the country’s leading labor sites. The organization’s partners and main employers are Rosatom, Gazprom, Russian Railways, Grand Service Express, MDMC “Artek”, VDC “Orlyonok”, leading hotel and hospitality complexes, agricultural enterprises and many others.
