Criminal case over journalist's death completed in Crimea

By the verdict of the Simferopol District Court of the Republic of Crimea dated July 12, 2024, a resident of the village of Mirnoye, Simferopol District, citizen M., born in 1972, was convicted of causing death by negligence.
On October 28, 2022, on the territory of the training ground located in the village of Perevalnoye, Simferopol District, under the leadership of citizen M., who is a member of the regional branch of the All-Russian public-state organization «Voluntary Society for Assistance to the Army, Aviation and Navy of Russia» of the Republic of Crimea, tactical medicine classes were held with citizen B. During the classes, citizen M., with the purpose of psychological training of citizen B., fired single shots from a machine gun into the ground. As a result of his last shot, the bullet ricocheted off the ground, splitting into 2 fragments, which hit the body of citizen B. As a result of these actions, citizen B. was inflicted with gunshot wounds, from which she died at the medical center of the military unit.
The court sentenced the guilty person, taking into account the circumstances of the case and information about his personality, the presence of mitigating circumstances, in the form of 1 year of correctional labor at his main place of work with a deduction of the convicted person’s wages in favor of the state in the amount of 10%.
The sentence has not entered into legal force.
