Criminal investigation officers detained apartment scammers in Simferopol

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Suspects of apartment fraud have been detained in Simferopol. The story began with a banal offer to rent an apartment.

In 2022, police department No. 3 “Central” of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Simferopol received a statement from a 58-year-old local resident. The woman said that she rented out her 1-room apartment to a young girl, who after a month stopped communicating and paying the rent.

According to the victim, she came to the apartment, found the locks had been changed and an unknown man, who explained that he lived here with his girlfriend. Then it turned out that in such a short period of time, the fraudster and her accomplice had masterminded a scheme for preparing documents for the ownership of the specified residential premises in their own name.

It was not possible to solve the crime “hot on the trail.” Nevertheless, the police continued to work until the result was achieved, and as a result of coordinated actions, employees of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Crimea detained the attackers at their places of residence — in the Republic of Adygea and in the city of Rostov-on-Don. They turned out to be a 26-year-old girl and a 37-year-old man who had previously been convicted of similar crimes.

During the investigation, it was established that in 2022, the defendant found an advertisement for part-time work in one of the instant messengers. Later, an unknown person contacted her and told her a scheme for “earning money”: she needed to rent apartments in other cities for subsequent resale. The girl agreed and after a while arrived in Simferopol, where she was met by an unknown man who gave her money and a fake passport in her name, made in a “handicraft way” — a photo of the suspect was pasted into the lost passport of a native of the city of Perm. The “employer” also introduced the girl to an accomplice – a 37-year-old Rostovite – who, “according to legend,” acted as the “tenant’s” roommate. After which the suspect rented housing in the Crimean capital from the applicant and, using forged documents, submitted an application to the MFC of the city of Simferopol to register ownership of someone else’s living space— reported the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea.

The damage caused to the victim amounted to 2 million 500 thousand rubles.

The investigator of OP No. 3 “Central” opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Fraud committed by an organized group or on an especially large scale or resulting in the deprivation of a citizen’s right to residential premises.” The sanction of the article provides for a maximum penalty of imprisonment for a term of up to 10 years. Currently, the suspect has been given a preventive measure in the form of a ban on certain actions, and her accomplice has been taken into custody.
