The Bakhchisaray District Court of the Republic of Crimea has sentenced a criminal wanted internationally in absentia for a murder committed 25 years ago. The perpetrator was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment in a strict regime penal colony.
According to the materials of the criminal case, at the end of July 1999, a group of seven young men and women went on a hike. The tourists stopped and pitched a tent on the plateau of Mount Ai-Petri, 7 kilometers from the Lesnikovoye cordon of the Bakhchisaray district. After dark, a stranger approached the young people and invited them to join the company. As it turned out later, he was a resident of the Saksky district, born in 1966. Late at night, when everyone went to bed, one of the young people stayed with the guest. While discussing everyday topics and drinking alcohol, a conflict occurred between them. The man took the hunting rifle he had with him and shot the young man in the chest. The young man died at the scene from his wound. The killer fled the scene of the crime and is currently wanted, and has been on the international wanted list since 2021— the court’s press service reported.
The court, having examined all the evidence in the case, came to the conclusion that the defendant was guilty and that his actions were correctly classified under Part 1 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation – murder, that is, intentional causing of death to another person.
The defendant’s term of punishment will be calculated from the day of his actual detention on the territory of the Russian Federation or his extradition to the territory of the Russian Federation.
The sentence has not entered into legal force.
