December 15 is the Day of the Prophet Habakkuk. Pray for the children to sleep soundly

CrimeaPRESS reports:

The main thing on December 15th was to pray for the children to sleep soundly. There was even a special ritual performed by healers. Everything was done in secret from the surrounding people. Late in the evening, the healer carried the child to the chicken coop, washed him with water three times and said: “White chickens, speckled chickens, yellow chickens, motley chickens, black chickens, take your night-nights, and give the baby good health and sleep.” Next, the healer spat three times and put a fresh dress on the child. It was believed that this would help relieve him of irritability and tearfulness. Ancestors said that this is an ailment that is caused by special evil creatures that are invisible to the human eye. They can only be smoked, shouted, spoken or passed on. However, it is very important to first find out the cause of the problem. So, they said that the child could simply be jinxed. The rite of transfer was widespread. For this purpose, the child was picked up and spoken to at dawn. After this, it was believed that the child would sleep well.

On December 15, the Church honors the memory of the prophet Habakkuk, who is the eighth of the 12 apostles. Unfortunately, not much information about his life has been preserved. However, according to legend, Habakkuk lived during the capture of Jerusalem and only 2 years did not live until the Jews returned from Egyptian captivity. There is also a story that it was Habakkuk who brought food to the prophet Daniel, who was thrown into a den along with the lions. The book of prophecies written by Habakkuk, consisting of three parts, is widely known. In the first part, Habakkuk talks about how the Creator, who rules history and the world, can allow the righteous to be oppressed. And in response, God tells Habakkuk that arrogance and violence will be destroyed, and those who are faithful to their faith will receive a reward — salvation. The second part of the book specifies this answer as 5 curses of the Chaldeans for their lawlessness, cruelty and idolatry. The third part contains a prayer and also talks about the coming of the Judge of the world.

Signs of the day:

  • A lot of snow means a rich harvest of herbs.
  • There is a foggy circle near the moon, which means there will be a snowstorm.
  • Chickens sit on the roost early — wait for frosts, wag their tails and flap their wings — in anticipation of a snowstorm.
  • Cock song in frosty weather — it will soon become warmer.
  • The goose hides its head under its wing — frost will come, it cackles — it will be warm.
  • A cat sleeps all day — it’s cold, walks around the house and meows loudly — it’s thawed.
  • If it rains today, it means the bad weather will last 47 days.
  • The stars are bright, but the moon is not visible in the sky — frost will come soon.
  • If there is a lot of snow and frost, and the ground is deeply frozen, the coming year will be fertile.
  • Birds sit on the tops of trees before frost — this means windy weather; they sit on the snow — there will be a thaw.
  • The crows cawed — expect a snowstorm.
  • The more intricate the winter patterns on the windows, the more lush the spring greenery.
