For his good deeds, he was awarded the gift of healing and could also cast out demons. After the death of his wife, Spyridon became the bishop of the city of Trimifunt in Cyprus. According to legend, one day there was a fairly long drought, and the saint was able to bring rain with the help of prayer. By his example, Spiridon showed how a real Christian should behave; he was hardworking and kind. He also took care of strict observance of church rules and the preservation of the text of the Holy Scriptures unchanged.
