Do-it-yourself Karaite pies: ethno-gastronomic excursions are held in Simferopol

Excursions for adults and schoolchildren have started at the first national Karaite bakery in Simferopol. This is reported by Tourist portal of Crimea. Visitors will be told who the Karaites are, shown a documentary about the people and their monuments on the territory of Crimea, and most importantly, they will be taught how to make real Karaite pies from puff pastry.
In an ethno-bakery in the very center of Simferopol, where you can try up to ten varieties of baked goods from a small people — the Karaites, unusual excursions for children and adults have begun.
The co-owner of the establishment, who is also the main cook, Roman Mangubi, a Karaite by origin, introduces visitors to the history and culture of the Crimean Karaites. Guests are shown documentaries, told legends and invited to a culinary master class. Its participants make a Karaite pie — a symbol of national cuisine, juicy, with a characteristic braid on the side. Either beef or fruits and berries are placed inside.
Participants in the master class learn how to make a special shape of the product, maintain the balance of dough and filling. Each product is signed with the name of the novice baker and sent to the oven. The tour ends with a tasting. Everyone tries the national kurabiye cookies according to the family recipe of Roman Mangubi. A distinctive feature of this dessert is that jam is placed inside. Tourists drink kashev — compote.
